Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, the American and British sitarist. She's the smallest woman and also the first woman to be awarded an official British House of Commons shield. Anoushka Sitar Shankar is the Indian young sitar star. She is a student and daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar. Born in London She spent her beginning of her career bouncing between London as well as New Delhi. At the age of 13, her first show in New Delhi took place. After that, she moved into Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is still a young woman, nevertheless, she has an impressive career in music and performance. Her father has accompanied her on numerous occasions for several years. Her first solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. The following year, she released the Grammy nominated album Live in Carnegie Hall. She has appeared at many major venues around the globe. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond the realm of music. Bapi the love of My Live, a biographical picture dedicated to her father Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. She also acted on the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. The role she played was that of an Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Her career continues to grow and she'll continue to achieve great success in the future. Anoushka was born in England however, she spent the majority of her childhood in between London as well as Delhi. She then moved to California and enrolled in the high school. In Delhi on his birthday, which was celebrated at the age of 75, Anoushka made her debut performing the sitar before the crowd of four years following her nine-year-old father. Anoushka was able to gain many valuable experiences when she accompanied her father on his world tour. It included performances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concerts and performing alongside George Harrison. She was the only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her musicianship and talent as a leading musician of in the Asian Arts.
